The latest National Crime Statistics released reveal an increase in domestic burglaries. The team at Thornhill Security explains how we can help to secure your home.
The new Home Office Statistical Bulletin, Crime in England and Wales quarterly update to December 2010 issued in the spring this year noted a 14% increase in domestic burglaries.
Leading insurance companies have found that only a small percentage of consumers take on board security measures such as installing or upgrading window and door locks. Others are not even careful about locking up when they leave their home!
Thornhill Security encourages both domestic and commercial property owners to review their security on a regular basis. The commercial market needs to think about the security implications of locks where keys are available to staff and the risk they bring if keys are lost or stolen. Likewise householders should do it as a matter of course rather than just when they move house.
The security of a lock can change over time as new methods of attacking can change. Most people change their phones every year or two and their car will often be replaced over a period of 2-5 years but do we ever think of changing our locks?
Now think of the valuables that you are protecting, not only in terms of contents, but family members. It may be a simple upgrade of cylinder to a new Anti-Snap cylinder which would be sufficient to give the protection against the increased risk of cylinder manipulation. While not suggesting you turn your home into a fortress, we encourage people to check their security on a more regular basis to ensure better protection, which then gives peace of mind.
